'Togetherness' gets a second season on HBO

HBO is sticking with Togetherness.

The pay-cable network Tuesday renewed the new half-hour comedy for a second season.

Independent filmmakers and brothers Jay and Mark Duplass write, direct and produce the series (Sunday, 9:30 p.m. ET/PT), which focuses on Brett (Mark Duplass) and Michelle (Melanie Lynskey), a husband and wife closing in on 40 who have hit a lull in their relationship.

Brett's friend, Alex (Steve Zissis), an unsuccessful actor, and Michelle's sister, Tina (Amanda Peet), a struggling bounce-house proprietor, complicate the situation while adding drama and comedy.

Production will begin this year with a Season 2 premiere scheduled for 2016.

"We began our love affair with HBO in our parents' living room in 1983, and to have these brilliant creative people put a ring on our fingers with a second season of Togetherness is a real-life dream come true," the Duplass brothers said in a statement accompanying the renewal announcement.
