Podcast fans: Get a ticket to the 'Party'
Podcast fans: Get a ticket to the Party on July 28.
As podcasts continue to see listener numbers spike, Seth Lind, Director of Operations for popular series Serial and This American Life, is putting on a show to celebrate "what people are calling a 'golden age' or 'renaissance' of podcasting," he says.
The live, one-night-only event is called Cast Party (as in "podcast" without the "pod"), and brings some of the most-listened-to podcasters to the stage of New York University's Skirball Center. The 2-and-a-half-hour event, on July 28, will be simulcast live to over 400 theaters across the country.
Musicians from brass quartet The Westerlies, performers from Cocoon Central Dance Team and a number of actors will help tell the stories by podcasters in a visual way. On-air talent featured onstage includes:
- Radiolab's Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich
- Invisibilia's Lulu Miller
- Reply All's PJ Vogt and Alex Goldman
- With Special Guest Lauren Lapkus's Lauren Lapkus
- The Truth's Jonathan Mitchell
Lind, who produced all three of the This American Life live shows with host Ira Glass, hopes to make Cast Party an annual event for podcast fans.
Tickets for the NYU live show that's being recorded ($40) and the screening of the show in movie theaters (cost an average of $18) are available on CastParty.org.
