Timeline of where Princess Di fits in the British royal family tree
The British royal family is not the largest but it’s the best known and the longest-serving. It has remained relatively stable over the last decade, with the exception of the third generation after Queen Elizabeth II, 91, and husband Prince Philip, 96: The births of Prince George of Cambridge and Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, two of their five great-grandchildren.
The birth of George in 2013 makes him third in line to the throne while Charlotte, born in 2015, is fourth. It’s the first time since the queen’s great-great grandmother Queen Victoria was on the throne in the late 19th century that a reigning monarch has three generations of direct heirs living, ensuring the future of the Windsor dynasty.
