Woman has 34 bridesmaids at her stunning beach wedding, 'It was about the fellowship'
"My Big Fat Greek Wedding" may have just met its match. A bride from New Orleans had 34 women in her wedding party.
Casmé Carter got married to Gary Carter Sr. on June 2 in Destin, Florida. Her six sisters and 28 girlfriends were there to celebrate the big day with her.
And yes, Carter is good friends with all 34.
The singer-songwriter said she originally asked 50 of her closest friends to be her bridesmaids. But 16 of them weren't able to be part of the wedding party because of conflicting schedules and having only a three-month window to plan.
Carter grew up in a household with six sisters and said, despite some people thinking that whenever women get together it's drama, she knows "how to deal with women. We work things out, no cattiness no drama."
While the bridal party didn't have to deal with much drama, the actual wedding was almost a disaster.
"So many things went wrong with the wedding...the chef canceled, the ring got lost in the water, the cakes weren't ready," Carter told Paste BN.
But having her 34 bridesmaids there along with her mom, who was sick just weeks before the wedding, helped her get through the mess.
"Between my mom being there and all my girls praying around me and singing, it was magical," Carter said.
She met all her bridesmaids within the last 20 years. She's lived in eight different cities and traveled a lot, which is how she was able to meet so many people.

"A lot of these young ladies I met either on set somewhere, or at church, at work, performing or in college," Carter said.
"I didn't do this for any coverage or anything, I had them there because those ladies deserved to be there."
She wanted everyone to be able to attend so she made the process as simple and affordable as she could. There was no strict wardrobe requirement or mandatory events.
Carter said all she asked was to have everyone wear neutral colors, light makeup and red lipstick. Some of the bridesmaids bought their dresses for $25 on Amazon.
"It wasn't about the money, it was about the fellowship," she said.
And fellowship did ensue. Not all of the bridesmaids knew each other at the start of the wedding festivities, and some new friendships were born at the end.
While her husband didn't have 34 groomsmen to match his wife's bridal party (he had 12), he was very supportive of her decision to include that many women.
"Gary is definitely an amazing man, not only does he deal with me, he dealt with all of my bridesmaids," Carter said. "He allows me to be me. He never tries to dim my light."
