Why not do your Earth Day duty? Even this border collie knows how to clean up litter!

There's no place like home, so they say, and when it comes to planet Earth that is quite literally true. With the colonization of another planet still no more than a scientific dream, the best bet for the long-term future of the human race is to look after the home we've got. And that's why Earth Day was created.
1969 marked the unofficial birthdate of the modern environmental movement in the United States. Concerned about widespread pollution, and inspired by the student anti-war protests, Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson liaised with Congressman Pete McCloskey and a young activist named Denis Hayes to start an environmental revolution by organizing college teach-ins focused on protecting the environment. Soon, the movement snowballed nationwide, and on April 22nd, 1970, Earth Day was born.
Placing conservation front and center on the agenda has led to a wide range of initiatives, including the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency and the passing of several laws, each designed to mitigate environmental damage that impacts people and animals. Along with the large gestures of support, there are many small ones too.

Earth Day is now a global event, recognized by more than a billion people worldwide as a day to support positive environmental action that protects us from what some see as self-destruction.
