Police officers use freshly baked muffin to rescue scared dog trapped in an Arizona canal
First responders will use anything in their power to save the day, but it’s safe to say a pumpkin muffin is not usually in their tool kit.
However, necessity is the mother of invention, and on June 17, the Glendale, Arizona police officers decided to rescue a distressed German Shepherd stuck in a canal, using an unlikely tactic – a pumpkin muffin freshly baked by an officer's wife.
After receiving a call from a concerned neighbor, the officers arrived on the scene to find the exhausted dog paddling back and forward and seemingly unable to get out of the water.
The dog initially refused to come close to the officer. That's when one officer stepped in with a unique plan: bribing the dog with pumpkin muffins the officer's wife had baked for his patrol shift.
"Officer Sorensen was able to use the muffin as a tool to get the dog close, at which time he grabbed onto his collar and removed him from the canal," the department wrote in a social media post.
The dog was later reunited with his owner, who lived just down the street.
