Books: New and noteworthy

1. Vinegar Girl by Anne Tyler (Hogarth, fiction, on sale June 21)
What it’s about: Reimagines The Taming of the Shrew in this modern tale about Kate, a teacher caring for her eccentric father, and Bunny, her pretty younger sister.
The buzz: Pulitzer Prize-winner Tyler is the latest writer to take on the Bard as part of the Hogarth Shakespeare series; 2016 marks the 400th anniversary of his death.
2. Robert Ludlum’s The Bourne Enigma by Eric Van Lustbader (Grand Central, fiction, on sale June 21)
What it’s about: Bourne learns he has four days to stop an international disaster after a warning from an old Russian friend, a fellow spymaster.
The buzz: Bourne will also be back in movie theaters this summer, as Matt Damon returns to the role in Jason Bourne on July 29 (featuring a different plot from the novel).
3. The Day the President Was Shot by Bill O’Reilly (Henry Holt, non-fiction, for ages 10-14)
What it’s about: A young readers’ adaptation of Killing Reagan, which recounted the 1981 assassination attempt on Ronald Reagan and its aftermath.
The buzz: Killing Reagan, part of O’Reilly and Martin Dugard’s hit historical franchise, landed at No. 1 on Paste BN’s Best-Selling Books list last fall.
4. The Pursuit by Janet Evanovich andLee Goldberg (Bantam, fiction, on sale June 21)
What it’s about: Former con man Nick Fox and FBI agent Kate O’Hare face off against an ex-Serbian military officer who wants to destroy a major American city.
The buzz: The previous four Fox & O’Hare thrillers were all Top 20 Paste BN best sellers.
5. My Father and Atticus Finch: A Lawyer’s Fight for Justicein 1930s Alabama by Joseph Madison Beck (Norton, non-fiction, on sale June 21)
What it’s about: Memoir about the author’s father, who defended a black man accused of raping a white woman, in a case similar to the one Harper Lee depicted in To Kill a Mockingbird.
The buzz: Sadly, the saintly Atticus Finch was tarnished by Lee’s revisionist 2015 release, Go Set a Watchman.
