1. First Comes Love by Emily Giffin (Ballantine, fiction, on sale June 28)

What it’s about: Two sisters in their 30s try to find their way back to each other in the wake of a family tragedy that divides them.

2. On Bowie by Rob Sheffield (Dey St., non-fiction, on sale June 28)

What it’s about: Sheffield, a Rolling Stone columnist and David Bowie fan, explores the late rock icon’s legacy.

The buzz: Sheffield is also author of the popular book, Love Is a Mix Tape.

3. The Games: A Private Novel by James Patterson and Mark Sullivan (Little, Brown, fiction, on sale June 27)

What it’s about: Can Jack Morgan save the day as bodies begin to turn up in Rio as a ruthless underworld tries to disrupt the Olympics before the opening ceremony?

The buzz: The timing of this thriller is no accident; the Summer Olympic Games open in Rio on Aug. 5.

4. The Fifty-Year Mission by Edward Gross and Mark A. Altman (Thomas Dunne Books, non-fiction, on sale June 28)

What it’s about: This first in a two-book oral history of Star Trek covers the first 25 years of the sci-fi franchise; volume two is due Aug. 30.

The buzz: One of a number of books being published to mark the 50th anniversary of Star Trek’s bold entry into the TV universe.

5. A Certain Age by Beatriz Williams (William Morrow, fiction, on sale June 28)

What it’s about: Set in the Roaring 1920s a la F. Scott Fitzgerald, this gossipy novel has a love triangle, a murder and the “trial of the century.”

The buzz: It’s an Indie Next pick of independent booksellers. “Simply exquisite,” says Dawn Rennert of the Concord Bookshop in Concord, Mass.
