1. Paris for One and Other Stories by Jojo Moyes (Pamela Dorman Books/Viking, fiction, on sale Oct. 18)
What it’s about: Moyes’ heroine finds herself alone in Paris when her boyfriend stands her up in the romantic title novella.
The buzz: Moyes is author of the No. 1 Paste BN best-selling romantic weepie Me Before You, which inspired the movie that starred Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin.
2. The Obsidian Chamber by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child (Grand Central, fiction, on sale Oct. 18 )
What it’s about: Special Agent Pendergast is missing and presumed dead. Then his ward, Constance, is taken captive by a figure from the past.
The buzz: Crimson Shore, the last in the Agent Pendergast action-adventure series, hit No. 6 on Paste BN’s Best-Selling Books list.
3. The Magnolia Story by Chip and Joanna Gaines (W Publishing Group/Thomas Nelson, non-fiction, on sale Oct. 18)
What it’s about: The husband-and-wife team behind popular HGTV show Fixer Upper tells the story of their relationship and home-improvement business.
The buzz: The same day, fellow HGTV star Nicole Curtis (Rehab Addict) will release her new book, Better Than New: Lessons I've Learned From Saving Old Homes (and How They Saved Me) (Artisan).
4. Truevine by Beth Macy (Little, Brown, non-fiction, on sale Oct. 18)
What it’s about: Tells the true story of two African-American brothers who were kidnapped in the Jim Crow South and displayed in the circus.
The buzz: It’s both an Indie Next pick of independent booksellers and an Amazon Best Book of October.
5. The Girl From Venice by Martin Cruz Smith (Simon & Schuster, fiction, on sale Oct. 18)
What it’s about: In this World War II novel, a Venice fisherman rescues a Jewish girl he finds in the lagoon.
The buzz: “A thoughtful and engrossing novel with more than enough action to keep the pages turning,” says Kirkus Reviews.
