1. Hemingway at War by Terry Mort (Pegasus, non-fiction, on sale now)

What it’s about: Papa Hemingway was many things, including a war correspondent; this book covers his tour of duty late in World War II for Collier’s magazine.

The buzz: “Entertaining,” says Kirkus Reviews.

2. Cuba!: Recipes and Stories from the Cuban Kitchen by Dan Goldberg, Andrea Kuhn and Jody Eddy (Ten Speed Press, non-fiction, on sale now)

What it’s about: Cookbook offers spicy local recipes as well as essays on Cuba’s culture and history.

The buzz: With our future relationship with Cuba very much up in the air, here’s a chance to dig into the island’s cuisine as an armchair tourist.

3. A Woman Looking at Men Looking at Women by Siri Hustvedt (Simon & Schuster, non-fiction, on sale now)

What it’s about: Essays on art and feminism by the novelist (The Blazing World).

The buzz: “Intellectually sophisticated…beguiling,” says Booklist.

4. Dogs on Instagram by @dogsofinstagram (Chronicle Books, non-fiction, on sale now)

What it’s about: Feast your eyes on 400 crowd-sourced shots of cute dogs flashing those puppy eyes.

The buzz: Attention last-minute Christmas shoppers, consider this for the canine fan on your list (and yes, cat people, there is a Cats on Instagram book).

5. Of All That Ends by Gunter Grass (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, non-fiction, on sale now)

What it’s about: A collection of writings about aging and death by the German novelist (The Tin Drum) who died in 2015.

The buzz: “Thoughtful, uncompromising,” says Publishers Weekly.
