New 'Twilight' short films to hit Facebook
Twihards, prepare yourselves: Lionsgate is about to greenlight five "mini movies" created around characters from Twilight.
No need to break out your Team Edward or Team Jacob T-shirts: Those two aren't involved (yet) in what's being called The Storytellers — New Creative Voices of ‘The Twilight Saga. But Kristen Stewart is -- she joins a panel of celebrity women, including author Stephenie Meyer, Kate Winslet, Octavia Spencer and Julie Bowen, who are heading up the contest, according to The New York Times.
Five aspiring female directors will be tapped to create the Twilight mini-movies, and the ones that make the cut will be shown exclusively on Facebook next year. Characters will be mined Meyer's Twilight Saga: Official Illustrated Guide (the NYT reports no original cast members will be featured).
“We think Facebook is a great way for us to introduce the world of Twilight to a whole new audience while re-energizing existing fans,” Michael Burns, Lionsgate’s vice chairman, told the NYT. “This is the just the beginning — a template, if you will,” Burns added. “You can probably guess what might be coming next.”
Hmm. So an endless afterlife of Twilight? Twilight: The Next Generation? Twilight: Even Your Grandchildren Will One Day Watch Vampires Pine for Moody Humans?
