Netflix feels the 'Funshine' with the 'Care Bears'

Long before Disney was questioned about the intelligence of taking a theme park ride and turning it into a movie, American Greetings had created the Care Bears and turned the chipper group into a full-fledged marketing powerhouse.

The 10 original cuddlers were known as Bedtime Bear, Birthday Bear, Cheer Bear, Friend Bear, Funshine Bear, Good Luck Bear, Grumpy Bear, Love-a-lot Bear, Tenderheart Bear and Wish Bear. Later on, we met the cousins: a dog, cat, elephant, pig, you get the idea.

In these dark times of strife in the Middle East, of Ebola devastating entire regions, of the battle of words between Martha Stewart and Gwyneth Paltrow, who wouldn't want a little soft cuddle with something so nostalgic?

And that's why, folks, the Care Bears and Cousins are making a comeback on Netflix, with a new series set to air in 2016, per CNN.

For those who have somehow forgotten the, uh, magical appeal of these little stuffed critters, here's a reminder.
