Watch: Philip Seymour Hoffman talks about his final leading role

Philip Seymour Hoffman died Feb. 2, leaving a shocked world and a stunning body of work, film-wise.

His last leading role was the type of all-consuming part he was respected for -- a master spy in the brainy thriller A Most Wanted Man,  based on the novel by John Le Carre. Hoffman inhabits the part of disillusioned German espionage agent Gunther Bachmann.

As A Most Wanted Man heads to Blu-Ray/DVD on Nov. 4 (on digital Tuesday), one of the gems from the extras is seeing Hoffman himself talk about what drew him to the role.

It's not glitzy James Bond fiction. Hoffman points out that Bachmann cares about the small people who "are stuck" and trapped in the spy game. His character wants the big fish controlling the stuck people.
"It is about a man who believes he knows how to go about actually getting the people who are really truly hurting innocent people. He wants those guys. He is trying to find a way to get at the big guy, the guy who is truly the puppeteer."
