Josh Brolin talks eating pot in 'Inherent Vice'

There's an unbelievable amount of talent (and, uh, storylines) packed into Paul Thomas Anderson's new comedy Inherent Vice (out Dec. 12), but it was Josh Brolin who stole the red carpet at Saturday night's Audi-sponsored AFI Fest premiere of the film. "It's a good Saturday night movie," said Anderson at The Egyptian theater.

Brolin plays a seventies era straight-edged cop nicknamed 'Bigfoot,' who is doggedly chasing down a hippie private detective named Doc (Joaquin Phoenix).

And this cast was rollin'.
“I eat pot in it,” Brolin told Paste BN. Of course, “it’s not really pot. There were a lot of bongs everywhere. And pipes. A lot of (rolling) papers. Joaquin was constantly rolling."
Not real weed, of course?
"I’m assuming not real," he laughed.  "I can’t imagine it’s real. You wouldn’t be able to work. But then again, people in the ‘70s seemed to do it and it worked fine."
Meanwhile, Phoenix said the comedy wasn't that drastic of a change from his last collaboration with Anderson, 2012's cult-inspired drama The Master, which earned Phoenix an Oscar nomination. “To be honest, when we were making The Master we were having a lot of fun,” said Phoenix. “Paul’s a funny guy, he enjoys humor.”
