'Homeland' casts Carrie's mom for Season 5
Fans of Showtime's CIA drama Homeland already know that heroine Carrie Mathison likely inherited her bipolar disorder from her dad.
Next season, we'll find out what personality traits she picked up from her mom.
Entertainment Weekly reports that the show has cast Broadway veteran Victoria Clark as Mama Mathison. The actress is a Tony winner for 2005's The Light in the Piazza and originated the role of Mother Superior in the Broadway version of Sister Act.
Carrie could use a reinfusion of parental influence in her life. And her poor, over-stressed psychiatrist sister Maggie (Amy Hargreagves) could probably use some backup, since she's stuck carrying for Baby Brody back in Virginia while Carrie runs ops in Pakistan.
It's not known whether the show will continue to write around the death of actor James Rebhorn, who played her dad, He died after Season 3 wrapped. And after last week, the fate of her surrogate dad, Saul (Mandy Patinkin) hangs in the balance.
A final thought: we can't wait to see if Clark can match her new onscreen daughter's epic cry face.
