How Lorde became Taylor Swift's manager

Some women brush off pesky guys by giving them a fake phone number. Taylor Swift apparently just hands them off to her manager — Lorde.

Tuesday on The Tonight Show, Lorde told Jimmy Fallon about attending Clive Davis' pre-Grammy Awards party in January. She didn't know many people, so she was sticking to Swift, whom she'd recently met at a New York Shake Shack, and some guy came up and started pitching Taylor about playing an event he was hosting.

"He talked to us for about 10 minutes," Lorde says, "and she was obviously lovely about it, and kind of got to the end of the conversation, and so he said, 'I'll leave my card. Is this your manager?' And he points at me."

Without missing a beat, Swift told him she sure was.

"All of a sudden, I was Taylor Swift's manager — this like tiny, kind of goth-y, hunched person," says Lorde, who had recently turned 17.
