That big 'Arrow' twist didn't actually happen, did it?
Spoiler alert! The following contains major spoilers from the Arrow mid-season finale.
What. Just. Happened.
Arrow pretty much destroyed its fanbase Wednesday night when it ended with a cliffhanger involving its main character actually falling off a cliff. That's right, this season's big bad Ra's al Ghul stabbed Oliver and Oliver fell off a cliff, presumably dead.
Wait...WHAT?!
Our reaction to that particularly twist can be summed up as this:
But like Oliver can't be dead, can he? There's no way this is going to stick, right? Well let's look at the facts:
Ra's said a prayer right before he stabbed Oliver
This stinks of magic and resurrection. This is a show based on a comic book, guys, a medium notorious for killing characters and then bringing them back. Sure, Ra's may have actually just killed Oliver, but that doesn't mean he's down for good.
Oliver's been "dead" before
Remember those 5 years on the island/in Hong Kong/potentially elsewhere? This show telling us Oliver Queen is dead is a little like the boy crying wolf.
But there were a few factors making fans (including us!) very, very nervous. Like...
The confirmation that Oliver has a son over on last week's The Flash
Remember that storyline where Moira paid off one of Oliver's exes who turned up pregnant? Well she told Oliver she lost the baby but when we saw her in Central City on The Flash last week, she took a phone call from her son. In the comics, Oliver's illegitimate son Connor Hawke takes over the mantle of the Arrow while Oliver is presumed dead.
He (finally) told Felicity he loves her
Fans waiting for Oliver and Felicity ("Olicity") to finally get together were probably squealing when Oliver finally told her that he loved her. It was a great moment and totally something a show would do right before they killed off a character.
Atom and Black Canary are waiting in the wings
The show has spent a lot of time this season building up Ray Palmer and Laurel into potential heroes. Are they going to take up the mantle from Oliver?
All of this aside, Oliver can't be totally and completely dead, right? Because this is his show. What would we do without his dark stares? His deep Arrow voice? His shirtless climing of the salmon ladder?
So basically we refuse to accept that Oliver is dead. But unfortunately, Stephen Amell, who plays Oliver, clearly wasn't helping matters when tweeted:
Hey Arrow, quit playing games with our hearts.
