Joel McHale's funny e-mail is the best thing about the Sony leak

The Sony Pictures hack is no laughing matter. A handful of movies surfaced online, employees and their families were threatened, and countless e-mails were leaked (some with nasty things to say about stars such as Angelina Jolie and Adam Driver).

But there is one humorous exchange that has materialized, belonging to Community star Joel McHale.

You may remember back in May when NBC canceled Community after five seasons (only to be picked up by Yahoo Screen the next month). Well, McHale seized that opportunity to request a discounted Sony TV from Sony Pictures Television president Steve Mosko.

In an e-mail to Mosko's assistant dated May 12, McHale wrote:
Hello Fayanne,

It's Joel McHale. You might remember me from such canceled Sony tv shows as—Community.

Sad.

Very sad.

So when I was talking to Steve about the show ending last Friday, I asked about a discount on a Sony tv. He said of course. He's the greatest as you know. I didn't want to bother him with the specific details of the screen I want so I thought I would bother you. I hope that is it [sic] cool.

It's below. You can check with Steve obviously if this all sounds strange.

I'm not sure how this all works but I'm happy to send a credit card number wherever necessary.

Thanks Fayanne. I'm very much going to miss working at Sony.

Cheers

Business Insider posted a screenshot of the full e-mail chain, but spoiler alert: It sounds like McHale got his 65-inch TV, on sale at the time for a cool $6,000.

The comedian

, writing, "U bet your sweet (expletive) I want my employee discount! 4K's r outstanding." His Community costar Gillian Jacobs also chimed in:

Nice work, Winger. Glad you didn't Britta that one.
