Will there be a 'Community' movie? Donald Glover wonders the same thing.
Community fans have been gunning for "six seasons and a movie" ever since Season 2, when this throwaway line became the unofficial mantra of the ratings-challenged comedy:
But now that the show is gearing up for a sixth season on Yahoo Screen March 17 (after being canceled by NBC last year), might this prophecy actually come true?
Donald Glover wondered the same thing when we caught up with him this week. Asked about the show's move to streaming:
Yeah, I mean, it's just weird! I'm really happy that (creator) Dan (Harmon) is getting to do exactly what he wanted. I am happy. I'm wondering if they're going to make that movie? That'll be kind of interesting, six seasons and a movie.
You may remember that Glover departed the sitcom mid-last season to focus on music persona Childish Gambino, for which he's up for two Grammy Awards this Sunday: best rap album (Because the Internet) and rap performance (V. 3005). In turn, his character, Troy Barnes, was written off the show — choosing to leave Greendale Community College so he could sail around the world and inherit Pierce's (Chevy Chase) fortune.
But just because he's no longer part of the study group, doesn't mean he shows any less love for his Greendale Human Beings:
It's dope, it's good. I just hope they're happy over there, they seem pretty happy. I saw Danny (Pudi) the other day. He was (off-Broadway). Me, him and Gillian (Jacobs) got to hang out.
