This is why you shouldn't talk while Jill Scott accepts an award
Soul singer Jill Scott was honored at the sixth annual Essence Black Women in Music event, and she totally slayed it.

As did all the other divas who came out to honor her with performances at the Avalon Hollywood in Los Angeles on Thursday night (including Chaka Khan, Brandy, MC Lyte and Lianne La Havas).

But while it was essentially one big party, the evening took a brief sour note as Scott addressed the audience.
Hi. This year is 15 years since my first album came out. And I just want to say thank you so much for all the support over the years. The intention was to give you music that would touch your heart. Hello?
She stopped, addressing the members of the crowd talking over her:
I mean, I'm not Chaka Khan, but 15 years in the business came to, you know, give me a little respect.
Mmhmm, that shut them up. She continued:
I will take every ounce of it. Every ounce of respect you have for me I will take it and I will put in my heart and wear it on my shoulders and put it in my backpack. Every ounce of appreciation that you give me, I will put it in my heart.
The singer rounded out her speech by thanking her fans and fellow artists, before breaking into a KILLER rendition of one of her signature tunes, He Loves Me:
