Jim Carrey asks about Brian Williams on the 'SNL' red carpet and it got awkward

The Saturday Night Live 40th anniversary special is meant to be a night of fun and comedy, right? Well even during the red carpet before the show the jokes were starting, but some of them were a little more ... awkward than others.



Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie were interviewing Jim Carrey and Tina Fey, and it was all fun and kind of over when Carrey had to ask a question about embattled NBC News anchor Brian Williams:
“Can I ask you a question, guys? Where are you hiding Brian Williams? Where is he?"
At which point Lauer started looking at his watch:
“Oh look at the time,” Lauer joked.
Meanwhile Fey looked totally mortified and Guthrie was just kind of smiling awkwardly. But Carrey wasn't done:
“I just want to say something in his defense, OK? If the helicopter in front of me gets hit I’m taking the story. OK?”
Not quite as universally funny as his Matthew McConaughey sketch, but OK.
