'SNL' put the totally alive Jon Lovitz in the 'In Memoriam' segment

The SNL 40th Anniversary special had a lot of the trappings of an award show: A red carpet, odd speeches, lots of montages and, of course, an In Memorium segment. The bit honored the members of the cast and crew that the show has lost over its 40 year history, and one it has definitely not.

The gag began when Steve Martin mentioned in his opening monologue, "We’ll pay tribute to those SNL greats who are no longer with us: John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Jon Lovitz," and the show cut to a very angry Lovitz in the audience. Then the show really committed to the joke by having Lovitz as the last photo in the In Memorium segment itself.

Morbid? Yes. Funny? Maybe. Going to help increase young people's awareness of who Jon Lovitz is? Definitely.

And in case you were worried, NBC has confirmed that Lovitz is definitely alive and well.
