Wait -- Hillary Clinton is one of Cookie's style influences on 'Empire'?!
Seems like everyone is obsessed with Empire and, more specifically, with Cookie Lyon, played by the amazing Taraji P. Henson.
And, if you're talking about Cookie, you're definitely talking fashion. No one else does fur like her!
So, when we asked the show's costume designer Rita McGhee who and what influences Cookie's over-the-top style, we weren't expecting to hear this mix of names: "Hillary Clinton, Arianna Huffington, Diana Ross and mob women."
It does make sense though since Cookie's aesthetic is all about strength, power and all-eyes-on-me moments, McGhee says:
Taraji owns it. She puts on clothes and it’s a magical moment. She looks good in everything, but when we get the right piece that works for the role, it’s magic. I think, 'How is this woman going to show her strength?' She’s in the world of music and the music is inspiration as well. Hillary Clinton wears pantsuits. Cookie wears a suit too -- but it’s a jumpsuit in leopard. She’s owning who she is right now.
Now, we just need to see Hillary in a leopard jumpsuit someday and we'll call it even!
