'Hot Tub Time Machine 2' almost had an even BETTER title

The film title Hot Tub Time Machine 2 is a special string of words. We may even call it the best movie name ever.

But that was until we heard what the comedy could've been called...

'Hot Tub Time Machine 3'!

That's right: The movie almost skipped No. 2 as an insider joke about the time-traveling plot. At the Hot Tub premiere, (that

, of course) Jason Jones (who plays Gary Winkle) explained:
"There's no 'Hot Tub 2,' because they went into the future and skipped it, so it should be called '3.'
Clark Duke (Jacob) also liked the idea of using a meta title.
"Me, (Rob) Corddry and the writer were lobbying hard for (the '3'), but Paramount smartly said, 'No, that would confuse people,'" he said. "I also wanted it to say 'From the guys who brought you 'Hot Tub Time Machine, Hot Tub Time Machine 2'" on the poster.
Sure, maybe laypeople (or "lei-people," as Jones cleverly referred to movie fans who were at the premiere wearing leis) wouldn't understand it, but it would be funny, right?

On the other hand, the movie's title is beautiful, because it's so simple. Bianca Haase (Sophie) says the name Hot Tub Time Machine 2 is what convinced her she should take the part of Jacob's love interest in the sequel.
"I love it how they call it how it is. It's, literally, a movie about a hot tub time machine. So I was fully on board."
And it's not about a "Jacuzzi time machine," mind you, as Jacob points out to Adam Scott's character Adam Jr. in the movie. "Jacuzzi is a brand name," explains Jacob.

Hot Tub Time Machine 2 is in theaters Feb. 20.
