The Oscars totally made a 'Smash' reference

Jennifer Hudson sang a song after the In Memoriam montage at the Oscars, which honors the artists that were lost in the past year in the world of cinema. It was a very touching moment.

It also happened to be, randomly, a huge shout-out to the failed NBC musical show Smash, since the song Hudson sang, I Can't Let Go, is an original song from the short-lived show.

It may not be too surprising, since the show's producers also produced Smash, but still, fans of the show (including cast member Debra Messing) were really excited about the whole thing:

Smash may be gone but it is definitely not forgotten.
