Donald Glover says he's going to leave the Spider-Man campaign to the fans

#Donald4Spiderman is still going strong, but Donald Glover won't be tweeting it out anytime soon.

The former Community actor was one of the first to call for a black Spider-Man back when Sony was rebooting the franchise (the role eventually went to Andrew Garfield). But fans haven't forgotten Glover's campaign, and revived it again when it was announced that Spider-Man was joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But don't expect Glover to spearhead that campaign again. He told Yahoo Movies:
“I’m leaving it to (the fans). Campaigning’s part of life, but for me, I’ve got a lot of stuff that I’m really excited about, and dropping it all… of course it’d be an honor. But it’s fine if it comes to me, if not, you know. I'm very Daoist about it.”
The hoopla around the first call for a black Spider-Man didn't go unanswered. In 2011, Marvel introduced Miles Morales, a half-black, half-Hispanic Spider-Man in the Ultimate Comics. Glover even went on to voice Morales in Disney's Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors. So the next Spider-Man could be black, but Glover won't be showing up at Kevin Feige's doorstep to ask for the job. He added to Yahoo Movies:
"Of course, I would always be honored to play Spider-Man. But I just want the Spider-Man movie to be dope, that’s all I want."
