Here's Matthew McConaughey as a Confederate soldier

Presenting... your first look at Matthew McConaughey in Civil War drama The Free State of Jones:

In the movie, which is out next year, McConaughey plays defiant Southern farmer Newt Knight. Knight seems like a pretty meaty character: He starts a rebellion against the Confederacy and marries a former slave. Things could get interesting.

McConaughey's co-stars include Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Beyond the Lights), Keri Russell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) and Mahershala Ali (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, House of Cards). The movie has just begun principal photography.
