Pharrell: A Fashion Icon?
Pharrell Williams, the singer, producer, fashion designer and Voice coach, will be accepting the Fashion Icon Award at the CFDA Fashion Awards on June 1. The honor, which was bestowed upon Rihanna last year, is being given to Pharrell, because, "If cool was a person, it would be Pharrell, not just for his looks and sense of style but for his kindness and openness," said Diane Von Furstenburg, president of the CFDA.
We completely agree.
Chains, oversized hats, suit shorts, track jackets and high-tops? If you think it's a ridiclous combo, you're missing the point. Pharrell dresses the way a young boy would if he had access to the most expensive dress-up box in the land. On purpose, people! One of Pharrell's fashion lines is called Billionaire Boys Club, because that is his specific look! And it is magical. (He also has a shoe line called Ice Cream Footwear, because that's exactly what a child would name his accessories company.)
Pharrell still has the mind (and face) of a young boy. His life of creating music (mostly legally) and spreading happiness is 24/7 playtime, so he dresses accordingly. Fashion should be about clothing worn to reflect a playfulness about life; clothing that makes the day brighter and more fun. We should all be like Pharrell.
