Nina Dobrev's 5 biggest moments on 'The Vampire Diaries'
The Vampire Diaires is losing Elena Gilbert. And Katherine Pierce. And Amara. Oh and The Originals is losing Tatia.
Nina Dobrev is leaving The Vampire Diaries, and taking with her the many characters she played on the show over the past six seasons. Of course her primary character, Elena Gilbert, will always have a very special place in our hearts, as her story is what brought Stefon and Damon to Mystic Falls and started this whole thing. We rounded up five of Elena's biggest moments on the show, which will never be the same without her (spoilers follow).
1. Elena discovers Stefan is a vampire

For the first few episodes of the show, Elena was pursued by a very handsome young man who was new to her school. He was a little mysterious, had a very handsome and weird older brother, but was otherwise pretty OK. Of course it didn't take long for her to figure out that Stefon was actually a vampire, and everything on the show immediately got more interesting with Elena in the know.
2. Aunt Jenna dies

One of the saddest moments on TVD and also one of the most important, when Klaus sacrificed Jenna to break his curse, he also took away another parental figure from Elena and her little brother Jeremy. Alaric stepped in for a bit, but after this night the Gilberts were mostly on their own.
3. Elena and Damon kiss
It was three seasons in the making and so worth the wait. After a couple of fake-outs the will they/won't they couple finally kissed, and although it took them a little more time to get their act together, it was still so perfect.
4. Elena turns into a vampire

Talk about a bad hangover. After Matt and Elena get into a car accident and Elena demands that Stefon save Matt, not her, she dies and wakes up the next day transitioning into a vampire (because she had been fed some vampire blood earlier, don't worry about it). It's the start of a whole new Elena on the show, Elena the Vampire, who we kind of liked better than Elena the always-in-peril-doppelganger.
5. Elena asks Alaric to erase Damon from her memory

Rather than face the pain and grief of losing Damon (for what she thought was forever) Elena had Alaric erase the love she and Damon shared from her memories, in a moment that made us pretty much shriek at our TVs in pain (Elena and Damon forever!).
