Johnny Depp is practically unrecognizable in the Whitey Bulger biopic

If there's one thing we can count on from Johnny Depp, it's that he will go for the full physical transformation for his movies if need be. Just remember some of his past looks:

And now we have a whole new look to add to the Depp canon. EWpremiered the first photo of Depp as Whitey Bulger in the new biopic of the real-life criminal, Black Mass, and we barely recognize him:

What's weirding us out the most is that Depp doesn't have much hair in the pic, when his characters can usually be counted on to have some really memorable hair. Also those jeans, that jacket and those shades are just priceless. But before we make too many jokes about the look, we should mention the fact that this shot occurs after Depp's Bulger has just killed someone in a parking lot. Director Scott Cooper told EW, “He murdered him in front of numerous witnesses in broad daylight. In a word, Whitey was brazen.”

Yeah, "brazen" seems about right.

Black Mass is set to hit theaters on Sept. 18.
