Not into ‘Avengers’? Here are 4 other reasons to go to the movies

You may have heard about this little superhero film hitting theaters this weekend that's poised to break all these box-office records... Well, even if you're not mad for Marvel movies, don't worry: There are plenty of reasons to still go to the theater this weekend. (We love going to the movies!) We present four (other) titles worth your ticket money:

1. Far From the Madding Crowd

The adaptation of Thomas Hardy's novel has such brilliant acting and beautiful cinematography that film critic Claudia Puig gave it four stars. Personally, we didn't love the film, because it basically seemed like one long movie about Carey Mulligan's Bathsheba figuring out that Matthias Schoenaerts' Gabriel is hot stuff. And, duh, he is! But you should watch and form your own opinion.

2. Ex Machina

Yay! This sci-fi thriller just got a wide release! Ex Machina, directed by the screenwriter of 28 Days Later, is gripping, thought-provoking and scary. In a good way. It follows Domnall Gleeson, as programmer Caleb, who’s trying to figure out whether to trust Oscar Isaac’s reclusive Internet genius Nathan, or Nathan's robotic creation called Ava, played by Alicia Vikander. Dude, this movie is creepy/awesome. We're still thinking about it. Puig gave it 3.5 stars.

3. Age of Adaline

Boo-hoo, Blake Lively is forced to look hot forever! That's basically the premise of this movie, but it's not as shallow as it sounds, as long as you believe in some weird science. The premise: Adaline (Lively) is permanently 29 years old, while normal (rich, beautiful) dude Ellis (Michiel Huisman) tries to romance her. It’s sort of like Benjamin Button meets a Nicholas Sparks novel, but in a better way than you think, promise! Puig only gave the film 2 stars, but we'd give it more just for the character Ellis-- love him! Also, Harrison Ford is in this movie, and he's great.

4. Monkey Kingdom

It's a moving nature documentary narrated by Tina Fey. Come on, every animal lover would dig this film about the spunky monkey Maya who has a blond bob and a baby named Kip!
