5 surprising things Arnold Schwarzenegger does in movie 'Maggie'

Arnold Schwarzenegger is in a serious, dramatic indie movie. Yeah, it's about zombies, but it's certainly different from anything the Running Man/Terminator/Barbarian has ever done.

The film's called Maggie, and it stars Schwarzenegger as a father who has to figure out how to deal with the fact that his daughter (Maggie), played by Abigail Breslin, is suffering from an infection that will turn her into a zombie.

Here are 5 things Ah-nold does in the film that we truly did not see coming:

1. He sheds a tear

We counted at least one real Schwarzenegger tear, and a few close-up shots of moist eyes in the movie. Schwarzenegger tries hard, and is more successful than we would've guessed, at portraying a depressed father.

2. He isn't an action star

So he does end up using the stick of an ax to harm others, and he also gets his hands on a gun, but Schwarzenegger's character is by no means an action star. In fact, a cop wrestles him to the ground at one point. Of course, Arnold doesn't stay down for long, but still.

3. He looks weathered

Schwarzenegger is still super-muscular, but he looks more like a normal person than usual. He has white in his beard. He has sad wrinkles on his face. He squints, while deep in thought, a lot. His receding hairline is showing. He's a human, and you really want to root for him.

4. He has an emotional monologue

Arnold's character has a pretty decent-sized monologue as he remembers his late wife. "She always pushed books on me," he tells his daughter, going on about how lovely his wife was. "You have a lot of your mother in you," he says, wistfully. It's, almost, a touching moment. Breslin's acting certainly helps.

5. Things get gross

OK, so this isn't something that Arnold does, but we figured we should worn you about some rather disgusting moments in the movie. Breslin's zombie infection gets pretty nasty.

Maggie is on VOD now.
