Can Natalie Portman handle playing Jackie Kennedy?
Natalie Portman as Jackie Kennedy. Can you visualize it?
News out of the Cannes Film Festival via film trade Variety has Portman starring in Jackie, about the first four days in Jackie Kennedy's life after the assassination of President John H. Kennedy.
Pablo Larrain will direct, with production to begin at the end of 2015. The movie will be a Black Swan reunion of sorts, since Darren Aronofsky will produce.
Portman is in Cannes presenting her directorial debut, the Hebrew-language film A Tale of Love and Darkness. She looked every bit of American royalty on the red carpet during the Cannes Film Festival opening night Wednesday with husband Benjamin Millepied.
Jackie would seem to be stepping on hallowed American iconic ground. But others have gone before. Most recently, it was Katie Holmes in the TV miniseries The Kennedys in 2011. Holmes is reprising the role for the next TV miniseries, The Kennedys: After Camelot, out in 2016.
So the big questions come up. Can Portman handle Jackie more than Katie Holmes?
