Watch the new trailer for 'True Detective' season 2 and try not to get goosebumps

“Sometimes your worst self is your best self.”

That's the very first bit of dialogue we have from True Detective season two, and it comes from Vince Vaughn's bad guy, and it's just the first of many lines we get to hear in the new trailer for the show. After the first trailer was mostly a melancholy stare-fest, it's pretty fun to actually hear what the show will be like, and not just see general darkness and sadness.

There's a lot going on here, but we're most interested in the voice-over from Rachel McAdams: “This girl’s gone missing. Nobody cares. The interior’s poisoned, and suddenly worth billions: nobody cares?” We have a feeling the audience is going to care a whole heck of a lot.

The second season of the HBO show premieres June 21.
