Letterman showed his sweet side, and we melted
David Letterman's last show was mostly pithy, and minus any pathos. He did get a little bit emotional towards the end, in his own way, after riffing on the rats that used to infest the Ed Sullivan Theater.
"We've done over 6000 shows. I was here for most of them. I can tell you, a pretty high percentage of those shows absolutely sucked."
As for all that praise being lavished on him, "Save a little for my funeral. I'd appreciate it."
In an uncharacteristically sweet moment, Letterman said hi to his wife Regina Lasko and son Harry, seated in the audience.
"Look at that kid! Thank you for being my family. I love you both and really nothing else matters, does it?"
