Forget Ariel: These Mermaid Parade costumes are outrageous!

We're all familiar with the Little Mermaid look. And let's be honest: It's pretty boring... for a mermaid.

So on Saturday's 33rd annual Mermaid Parade in Coney Island, tens of thousands of people showed up to imagine much more creative underwater garb. There were:

Punk-rock sea creatures

Purple-skinned mermaids

Artistic oceanic beings

Jelly fish-like looks

A beautiful blue ocean slug, perhaps?

A not-yet-discovered creature

A festive aquatic crew

We have a feeling he's a very-deep-sea creature

And then there's a boat hat
