Surprise! Lil Wayne has a new album out ... but it's only on Tidal
As a musically inclined Regina George might say,
But that's what exactly what music's A-list keeps trying to do, as the likes of Madonna, Nicki Minaj and Beyonce debut more and more new content on the struggling thriving streaming service.
The latest is rapper Lil Wayne, who released his entire FWA (aka Free Weezy Album) on Tidal late Friday night.
The long-teased project is a protest of sorts against his Cash Money label, which he claims wouldn't release his Carter V album. The 15-track compilation features guests such as Wiz Khalifa, Cory Gunz and Young Jeezy, and so far, has been getting rave reviews from fans on Twitter:
Although, Complex writer Frazier Tharpe had a more discerning view of the new music in his first impressions, calling it "disappointing" and naming He's Dead an album highlight. His assessment is pretty much spot-on — after a strong start, FWA falters — although we also enjoyed album opener Glory, the James Brown-sampling I Feel Good and the rapid-fire Pull Up (featuring Euro).
So, maybe it's not everything we hoped for. Regardless, Weezy's back and here to stay.
