'Ant-Man' director explains what the deal is with Evangline Lilly's post-credit scene
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD. Maybe come back to this page after you've seen Ant-Man.
Because Ant-Man is a Marvel movie, it has a post-credit scene. And then another one. These scenes are actually pretty significant, because they hint at where Paul Rudd's Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Evangeline Lilly's Hope van Dyne/WASP (!!!) are going.
OK, let's explain. In Ant-Man, we learn that Hope's mother Janet wore the original Wasp suit, but she was lost in the quantum realm and gone. Throughout the entire Ant-Man movie, Hope tries to convince her father Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) that she's ready to suit up and use shrinking skills like her parents have. Hank repeatedly denies Hope... until the first post-credit scene.
In the scene, Hank shows Hope a new Wasp suit that her mother "never got to use." Clearly, it's Hope's turn to become the superheroine Wasp, right?
Director Peyton Reed pretty much confirmed our suspicions that Lilly's Hope will become Wasp on the Ant-Man red carpet, saying:
"(The scene) may or may not sort of give you insight into Evangeline Lilly's character and where she might be headed... I think we can expect her in movies later... She kicks (butt)."
Just FYI, in the comics, Wasp spends a lot of time as a member of the Avengers.
