Hope your lips are ready for luxury: Louboutin unveils a lipstick collection

Soon you will be able to be be decked in Louboutins from your head to your toes. Literally.

Christian Louboutin, aka one of the most famous shoe designers out there, is bringing his signature touch to the world of lip color. The designer is launching a lipstick collection featuring 36 shades in three different textures  --  Sheer Voile (light coverage), Silky Satin (medium to full coverage) and Velvet Matte (full coverage). And just like anything else you can buy from Louboutin, the collection is incredibly artistic, inspired by everything from Babylonian architecture to Middle Eastern antiquities, and just looking at them there's a definite architectural vibe.

The cases are pretty enough that the cap comes with a small ring at the top through which a ribbon is threaded, so you can turn it into a necklace. So half lipstick, half jewelry. Who knew Louboutin was so pragmatic?

Here's what Louboutin himself had to say (in a news release) about why he chose to design lip color:
“After the eyes, lips represent the most expressive element of the face. And there’s the fetish appeal because lipstick can transform a face from intense, to naïve or even dangerous. When a woman makes up her lips, the rest of the face seemingly disappears. Unconsciously, she might become more aware of her lips and her elocution and expression. A red lip can speak volumes, think of the blood red mouth of Edith Piaf, helping the diva morph into a voice. Sporting lipstick is therefore often a signature for an accomplished woman.”
We feel more accomplished just reading that.

The lipsticks will cost $90 each, and are available starting in September.
