What you MUST know about 'Mindy Project' on Hulu

On Sept. 15, The Mindy Project's fourth season airs on Hulu (after spending three low-rated seasons on Fox). So what's going to happen with the show? Here's what you need to know, courtesy of Paste BN's TV editor Gary Levin, who's reporting from the Television Critics Association:

The show will pick up where it left off

If you recall from the season finale, Mindy is pregnant with her boyfriend, Danny Castellano (Chris Messina), who's gone to India to tell her parents he's in love with her.

But it will also pick up where it could have left off

Mindy Project will explore what the show would be like if Mindy had never met Danny. Freida Pinto plays a doppelganger for Mindy who wakes up next to Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who plays a Real Housewives reality-TV producer.

The episodes will be shared weekly

Instead of dumping full seasons at once, like Netflix does, Hulu is going to share one Mindy Project episode a week.
"Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I like the idea of the Christmas episode airing in December," said Mindy Kaling.

The show will have more freedom

Before, Fox wouldn't let the show open with the line "Jesus." Now on Hulu, Mindy Project will have "full penetrative sex to open and close each episode," joked Ike Barinholtz.
