George R.R. Martin pits the Starks against the Lannisters at a minor league baseball game
George R.R. Martin has conquered books and television, and now is turning his powers to the world of baseball.
The Game of Thrones author stopped by minor league baseball team Staten Island Yankees' "Meet George R.R. Martin Night," where the teams wore Stark and Lannister jerseys and the crowd dressed up like Thrones characters. And of course, Martin sat on an Iron Throne made of baseball bats:
The event was actually a fundraiser for New Mexico's Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary, a non-profit rescue facility, an issue Martin has been vocal about before. The event appears to have been a rousing success, with
and the team giving the charity a surprise $10,000 check. Also the fans seemed to have a really, really good time:
Oh and the Starks totally killed the Lannisters ... we mean the Yankees beat the Hudson Valley Renegades 10-1.
If only the Starks were as good at the game of thrones as they are at baseball. Sigh.
