'Frozen' director crushes all your 'Frozen'/'Tarzan' crossover dreams
So, we're all for all Disney movies being in the same weird universe right? (There's already a theory for that in the Pixar universe.) Elsa and Anna could totally be in the same universe as, say, Tarzan.
At least, that's what Frozen director Chris Buck planted in our minds during his Reddit AMA last year, telling fans that Elsa and Anna's parents, "didn't die on the boat. They got washed up on a shore in a jungle island. The queen gave birth to a baby boy. They build a treehouse. They get eaten by a leopard..."
Does that mean what we think it means?! Could Elsa, Anna and Tarzan be siblings? Weirdest Thanksgiving dinners ever...
But, no, the Buck stops us here. He told MTV News:
“When you’re working on a feature, you have a lot of time to think about stuff because it takes four years to make one. I think Jen (Lee) and I were walking to a meeting, and I just start to tell her the entire story."
Which means none of this official, but a nice figment of Buck's imagination. So what's the whole story that Buck came up with? Well it involves a jungle, gorillas, and some surfing penguins.
"I said, ’Of course Anna and Elsa’s parents didn’t die. Yes, there was a shipwreck, but they were at sea a little bit longer than we think they were because the mother was pregnant, and she gave birth on the boat, to a little boy. They get shipwrecked, and somehow they really washed way far away from the Scandinavian waters, and they end up in the jungle. They end up building a tree house and a leopard kills them, so their baby boy is raised by gorillas. So in my little head, Anna and Elsa’s brother is Tarzan — but on the other side of that island are surfing penguins, to tie in a non-Disney movie, ’Surf’s Up.’ That’s my fun little world."
But hey, believe whatever you want to believe, Buck says. “If you want to tie them all together, then do it," he tells fans that may be disappointed we will never see this crossover. "That’s the spirit of Disney.”
