Watch Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara fall in love in 'Carol' trailer

The trailer for romantic period drama Carol has hit the Internet, and it is chock full of things we absolutely adore. It's got Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Cate Blanchett with excellent 1950s hair, Rooney Mara with Audrey Hepburn-style 1950s hair, romance, looks of longing and so much more.

Carol, which debuted at Cannes earlier this summer, and is based on a 1950s novel that was revolutionary for its depiction of a lesbian romance, and even so many years later, the pairing of Blanchett and Mara still feels like a really big deal. The film is by Todd Haynes, who directed Blanchett to an Oscar nomination in 2007's I'm Not There, and it got some excellent reviews from the festival (like this one). Oh and Mara took home the Best Actress prize at the festival, too. So we're for sure putting this on our must-watch list under "will generate awards buzz for sure."
