Eddie Redmayne transforms in the first trailer for 'The Danish Girl'
"I believe I am a woman."
That's what Eddie Redmayne's character Lili Elbe says in the first trailer for The Danish Girl, which tells the story of one of the first transgender women to receive gender reassignment surgery. The movie is from Tom Hooper, the director of The King's Speech and Les Miserables, and the trailer shows that this incredible story is truly getting an Oscar-level film. It focuses on Lili's time before her transition, discovering her identity and coming out to her wife (Alicia Vikander). In particular a moment where she holds a dress is striking, the camera zooming in on her hands caressing the fabric ever so slightly. It's going to be an emotional story, to say the least.
The Danish Girl will debut at the Venice Film Festival this week and opens in theaters later this year.
