Dear Academy: Please let one of these amazing pairs host the 2016 Oscars

Comedy is better in pairs, apparently.

Oscars producer David Hill said Wednesday that the awards show will have not one but two hosts for the 2016 ceremony. And while hosting duos can be kind of a mixed bag, we can come up with plenty of pairs that would make the show absolutely spectacular.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler

These ladies are the obvious, and probably the safest choice. They killed it as the hosts of the Golden Globes three years in a row, an awards show that wants to be the Oscars so, so badly. Sure they're not as musically-inclined as some former hosts, but unless the musical numbers are really, really good, we're OK with them being replaced by jokes like this:

Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele

This is the pair that gets our vote. Key and Peele are legitimately the funniest guys around right now -- just look at any one of the sketches from their Comedy Central show for evidence. Plus Key has some experience entertaining a ballroom full of formally-dressed celebrities: He brought his character Luther, aka President Obama's Anger Translator, to the White House Correspondents Dinner this year. And considering this is the last season of their sketch show, they have plenty of time on their hands to work on some jokes. Basically the Oscars can't go wrong by signing these two up.

Eddie Murphy and Bill Murray

Remember that time that Eddie Murphy was going to host the Oscars? That would have been really fun (instead we got another snooze-fest from Billy Crystal). But perhaps if Eddie isn't down to host the show solo he might join one of his fellow slightly-reclusive Saturday Night Live alums, Bill Murray. Would it be a weird show? Absolutely. Would millions of people watch just to see what they'd do together? You bet.

Mindy Kaling and Hannibal Buress

The last time the Oscars enlisted a pair to host, they were trying to reach those darn Millennials so freaking hard. But it would actually be really easy to reach the youths by having two of our favorite comedians (from Millennial hits The Mindy Project and Broad City) join forces. Kaling would cover all the outfit sight gags and Burress would keep things on the chill side. It would be an enjoyable ceremony.

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert

Stewart, who now has a lot of free time on his hands, has already nailed this gig a couple of times, so why not bring his other half along for 2016? Since we won't see Stewart/Colbert on a ballot, it might be nice to see those two names on an Oscars ad.

Trevor Noah and Larry Wilmore

Call them Stewart/Colbert 2.0. The new Comedy Central late night hosts will probably be pretty busy with the Daily and Nightly shows, but having them on the Oscar stage would be a great way to signal that we've moved on to a new generation.

Steve Martin and Whoopi Goldberg

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Both of these veterans have performed well at this gig before (Martin even did it in a pair, with Alec Baldwin back in 2010), and they would certainly do well together.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon

OK, maybe we're just dreaming here but how great would this be!?!? The Boston accents. The Good Will Hunting jokes. The Batfleck jokes. It would all be GOLDEN. But we suppose Damon might actually be a nominee this year, so he has plenty to do.

Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer

Another one that's more wishful thinking than anything else, but if the Academy really wants to get the Millennials to watch, calling the Broad City duo is the way to do it. The show would be an absurd, pot-laced piece of insanity, but we would absolutely adore it.

Anne Hathaway and James Franco

JUST KIDDING. They were terrible. We're still trying to wipe this ceremony from our memories.

What do you guys think?
