Watch: The deleted scene where 'Cinderella' 'fessed up about talking to mice friends
That's young love for you: Fairytale Prince throws a massive ball to find his love, and then all he wants to do is spend alone-time with her during the big party. Who needs slow dancing in a crowd when there are stars to gaze upon together?
In Cinderella, director Kenneth Branagh had filmed more get-to-know-you time for the Prince and Cinderella, walking around the palace's beautiful gardens.
The chemistry is palpable and the Prince doesn't bolt when Cinderella talks about her conversations with animal friends (It's cute now Prince, but we'll see how long that talk lasts in the marriage).
Branagh tells Paste BN he loved the sumptuous, extended "Get to Know You" scene, which is now released as part of the Disney Movies Anywhere app.
But he felt the scene, with the beautiful classic score soaring behind it, was getting the story off-track.
"It was entirely a rhythm thing. This sequence was lovely to film and they did it really beautifully. But the plot needed to move a little more. Although this is beautiful, it didn't drive the film on."
Branagh was hands-on with the extra features for the Blu-Ray/DVD release on Tuesday as well.
"Audiences are so sophisticated. These scenes allow an audience to see why certain kinds of choices were made in the filmmaking. And they can have a think about whether or not we made a right decision."
Given the reception the live-action take received atop the spring box office, it's hard to argue with Branagh's choices. The director also points out that some focus group fans wanted a more lethal ending for the evil stepmother (Cate Blanchett). He stuck to his guns there and kept his beautiful, forgiving Cinderella ending.
