Regina King on her 'American Crime' Emmy win: 'We don't see characters like that on TV'

As Emmys host Andy Samberg noted, this year is the year for diversity in TV. And no one felt it more than Regina King (who was gleefully applauded by BFF Taraji P. Henson) when she won the Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for American Crime.

King, who plays a Muslim woman in American Crime, told Paste BN why she thinks the win is so important:
“We don’t see characters like that on TV, and when you do see them on TV, you don’t see them throughout an entire show. So to have that character be recognized, it kind of makes you feel like people are listening, and that there are people out there who know that the conversation needs continuing.”
You go, girl. You deserve it.
