Did 'Better Call Saul' escape from the shadow of 'Breaking Bad'?

The problem with spin-offs is that they're always a slave to the original. Especially when the original is as good as Breaking Bad.

But the AMC spin-off show, Better Call Saul, is pretty good in its own right. It was good enough to be nominated for Outstanding Drama Series at the Emmys, and it was good enough to be renewed for a second season. So, has Saul escaped the shadow of its meth-making older cousin? We're not sure, but star Patrick Fabian, who plays Jimmy's nemesis, lawyer Howard Hamlin, thinks it's making a name for itself. He told Paste BN:
"It wasn't until a month beforehand when the looming shadow of 'Breaking Bad' (when I) became nervous for us. But out of the gates a lot of people tuned in to see what this thing was, and they stuck around all season long."
So we know that you're trying to separate yourself from Breaking Bad, but what about all those rumors of Bryan Cranston hanging around the Better Call Saul sets? Any chance of a Walter White cameo? Fabian says:
"Everything's on the table as long as you're alive five years before 'Breaking Bad' begins.
