Trevor Noah addresses Oregon shooting on 'Daily Show'

Trevor Noah probably didn't think he'd have to address a mass shooting on his first week on the job.

But sadly, these senseless acts of violence—and the somber Daily Show monologues that follow, mourning the lives lost—are more common than they should be.

So after ten people died in a shooting at an Oregon community college Thursday afternoon, Noah began his show that evening with a somber minute-long commemoration.

Addressing mass shootings on the Daily Show never got any easier for his predecessor Jon Stewart, who delivered some of the best moments on the show in those times of grief.

But while Stewart's emotionally charged monologue after the Charleston massacre revealed his anger about how routine gun violence has become in America, Noah admitted that he's still grappling with covering the day's events in Oregon.

"Normally in these situations, I'll just speak from the heart," he told the audience. "But honestly, this is not a normal situation for me," he told the audience.

And after a few moving sentences expressing his grief and empathy, it was time to get on with the show. "I guess I can do what I do best, and that’s try to make people laugh," he ended.
