Ava DuVernay wants more diverse movie supercuts
Supercuts: they're the compilations of clips from our favorite shows and movies we love to watch.
But Ava DuVernay, the Selma director whose Twitter account is a running commentary of Hollywood biases and BS, has some thoughts about which films most often get included in these compilations.
In a response to a tweet from Indiewire about a new supercut comparing films' first and last scenes...
DuVernay pointed out what the video, and many others like it, leaves out: filmmakers that aren't white men.
And when another Twitter user pointed out that the video did include a few non-white directors, DuVernay reminded us of the larger point she's trying to make.
Several non-white faces does not an inclusive supercut—or film industry—make.
